Short Term Rental Licensing

2021 Short-Term Rental Applications

City Council recently adopted changes to Chapter 5.12 of Title 5 and various sections of Title 17 of the Leadville Municipal Code concerning short-term rentals on 2/2/2021.

Short Term Rental Code Changes

City staff is also converting the current licensing process to an online process with LodgingRevs., which was awarded a contract on 12/15/2020 by the City Council.

Although we are currently not accepting renewals or new licenses for 2021 and these renewals went live on the new platform on 3/15/2021 and have until 4/30/2021 to submit a renewal application for the 2021 STR season. 2020 license holders will be contacted via email when the new system is up and running.

City Staff tentatively expects the platform to go live for new 2021 short-term licenses on 4/30/2021 by 5pm. Please continue to check back to these webpage for that link.

Anyone wishing to apply for a new 2021 short-term rental license may schedule their yearly fire safety check and obtain their sales and lodging tax licenses from the State of Colorado and Lake County before the City begins accepting new applications for 2021. Screenshots of AirB&B listings will no longer be accepted as proof of sales and lodging tax licenses. Please see the State of Colorado Vacation Rental New Lodging Tax Business Application Process below.

To schedule a fire safety check, please call or email Fire Marshal Boyle. He can be reached at 719-293-1368 or via email at firemarshal@leadvillefire.org

Once you have scheduled a safety check, you should receive some form of communication from the Fire Marshal confirming your appointment. The Safety Check Affidavit form has the criteria required to pass the fire safety check. Additionally, we have provided the "sample" Safety Check Inspection form. It is watered marked as a "sample" because you will not print this form out. Rather, the fire marshal will come to the safety check with this form, fill it out and sign it, and provide the property owner/property manager with the original copy for your records. If you have questions about this process, please ask those clarifying questions to the fire marshal when scheduling your safety check.

The Fire Safety Check form, signed by the Fire Marshal, and the Safety Check Affidavit signed by the property owner/manager are both required forms that you will upload with other materials for submission of a complete short-term rental application when submitting an STR license on the LodgingRevs platform it can also be found in the documents below.

Please note completing a safety check and obtaining the appropriate tax licenses does not guarantee that an application for a short-term rental license will be approved. Still, it will give those wishing to apply for a new license a head start on the application process. No short-term rental license application will be approved unless the application is complete and shows that the applicant meets all the Leadville Municipal Code's applicable requirements.

Please see the attached guide that explains the process for applying for a City of Leadville STR license.  If you have questions, please email adminservices@leadville-co.gov
